What are the best ecommerce analytics tools?
This morning I read a great answer to this question on Quora by my colleague Josh Porter and I thought I’d share it here.
Question:
What are the best ecommerce analytics tools?
I am familiar with GA implementation for ecommerce and wondered if there are any additional effective solutions.
Answer by Josh Porter:
This question keeps me up at night. To try and help build a great ecommerce analytics tool, we have been working on answering some questions we hear e-commerce folks struggling with most and we’re building them into our product. Here are the big ones:
-
- First-touch Attribution - We store the very first touch that someone makes with your company, be it a mention on Facebook, a click through on an email, or a referral link from a blog. This helps determine where good customers come from initially…the very first time you saw them. We keep this data forever as it shows trends over time and helps determine which channels are best at finding great customers.
- Revenue by Channel - You can see revenue over time with a breakdown by channel. This helps determine which channels drive sales best over time so that you can know which to invest more in and which to un-invest in.
- Revenue by Customer - You can see revenue over time with a breakdown by customer. This helps determine which customers are purchasing the most product over time and helps companies focus more of their efforts on replicating those experiences and treating those customers special.
In general, we’ve found that analyzing activity by channels and by customers is the best way to get insight into what’s working and what isn’t. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about how we do this or grab a 30-day free trial at http://www.performable.com/.
